Come join us Wednesday, August 8th from 9:00 a.m. to noon in McCracken 335 for a special SEOMTC summer session, where we’ll be exploring some fun and engrossing “mathy” games and puzzles. If you have a mathy game you’ve used in class or played outside of class, feel free to bring it to share! Lunch and parking passes will be provided. We also have a limited number of small, but awesome bonus giveaways for attending!

Suppose you take a piece of paper, fold it flat, make ONE complete straight cut, and unfold the resulting pieces. What kind of shapes are possible to create in this way? December 10 • Patterns, Sequences, and the Golden Ratio in the Geometry of Zometools

Come join us December 10 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Athens Community Center at 701 E. State St., Athens, OH! Nick Pilewski will lead us through an exploration of the Golden Ratio and how its incorporation into the design of Zometools allows us to construct beautiful structures! We'll then investigate some of the mathematics of sequences and patterns. Hope to see you there, and BRING A FRIEND!
October 22 • Amanda Serenevy to Facilitate Balance Puzzles!
We're thrilled to welcome Amanda Serenevy back to Athens! Amanda serves as Executive Director of the Riverbend Community Math Center, and is a nationally recognized leader of the Math Circle and Math Teachers' Circle communities. She has been active in math outreach towards a wide range of audiences, including Navajo Math Circles and the Math Circle Institute held each summer.
Last here in Athens for our 2015 Summer Immersion, we're thrilled to have Amanda return to facilitate a session on balance puzzles Saturday October 22 1:00-4:00 p.m. at East Elementary. Not sure what a balance puzzle is? Find out how they can be used with a range of learners to develop algebraic thinking.
All are welcome and the cost is free. If you've never come to a SEOMTC session you are especially welcome! Please come and please bring a friend. We are happy to provide certificates of attendance for all participants upon request.
