2016-2017 Meeting Schedule
Saturday, September 24, 2016: 12:55 - 1:45 p.m. in Morton 322, Ohio University
Instead of having a follow-up meeting for 3 hours on a Saturday like usual, we would like to invite you to the Appalachian Ohio Mathematics and Science Teaching Research Symposium on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 8:30-3:00. In the morning, Bob Klein will be leading a Math League session which will demonstrate how math circles go when done with kids. The SEOMTC will then have a short session in the afternoon at the Symposium consisting of a Q&A regarding the Math League session and a discussion of how MTC professional development has helped us grow as educators. We hope you will attend the whole day!
Saturday, October 22, 2016: 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at East Elementary, 3 Wallace Dr., Athens OH
We are thrilled to have Amanda Serenevy return to facilitate a session on balance puzzles this Saturday, October 22, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at East Elementary. Not sure what a balance puzzle is? Find out how they can be used with a range of learners to develop algebraic thinking. The first 25 participants will receive a four-volume set of Balance Benders, which includes tons of problems and activities keyed to three separate grade/ability levels! Amanda will also be leading a Math Circle session for kids (ages 11-15) the same day 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the Athens Public Library, Athens branch. All are welcome and the cost is free. If you've never come to an SEOMTC session, you are especially welcome! Please come and please bring a friend. We are happy to provide certificates of attendance for all participants upon request.
